Episode 75: Cory Doctorow
Prolific author, journalist, and activist Cory Doctorow joins us on April 30 for the next That Word Chat.
Doctorow is a pioneer of online media who writes about the internet, big tech, capitalism, and social causes. He is the author of many books, most recently the thriller The Bezzle (a follow-up to last year’s Red Team Blues), and the science fiction novel The Lost Cause, which looks at the climate crisis 30 years in the future. His most recent nonfiction book is The Internet Con: How to Seize the Means of Computation. Those three books are just from the past year.
Between books, he blogs at Pluralistic.net, works for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, is a MIT Media Lab research affiliate, is a visiting professor at Open University in the UK and a visiting professor of practice at the University of North Carolina’s School of Library and Information Science, and co-founded the UK Open Rights Group. He was born in Toronto and now lives in Los Angeles. In 2020, Doctorow was inducted into the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame.
Sign up below and join us on Zoom at 4:30 p.m. EDT (20:30 UTC) on Tuesday, April 30.

Want more That Word Chat? Join the team!
That Word Chat is a blast every time we do it. It's also a big time commitment for host Mark Allen and producers Heather Saunders and Sarahni Pecson. We work hard to bring you a casual, fun, usually professional experience. What keeps us going most is hearing how much you love the experience. Please consider being part of the team with various levels of support, each with some cool benefits — most levels include access to our private Slack group. You can opt to support us monthly or annually.
Possibly Important Notes
Your credit card will be charged monthly or annually, but you are welcome to change things at any time.
Terms are subject to change, as is life in general.
Private access to recorded chats means you can download them and use them yourself, share with your pets and immediate family, and use them in whole or in part (give us credit, please) in a classroom or for other nonprofit educational purposes. Mark Allen Editorial LLC retains the copyright. Same goes for the show transcripts.
Benefits listed above are for the live show on Zoom, and we may mix things up or do something totally different on other platforms.
We apologize in advance for any delays in providing any of the benefits listed. We'll do our best, but we sometimes get busy with our day jobs. If you are having trouble finding a benefit or did not receive a benefit, please let us know.
If you are Patreon user and would like to sign up there instead of here, take a look at https://www.patreon.com/thatwordchat. (We love Patreon, but we pay a fee for each sign-up there.)
