A WORDY CELEBRATION OF ALL THINGS LEXICAL,
LIVE ON ZOOM WITH RECORDED EPISODES ON YOUTUBE.
First look at the new
Chicago Manual of Style!
Episode 73: Russell Harper
Friday, April 5, 2024
For the next episode of That Word Chat, we're welcoming back Russell Harper for a special Friday afternoon episode in front of a live audience at ACES 2024 in San Diego.
Harper will preview the coming 18th edition of The Chicago Manual of Style in the editing community's first look at the new book. The new edition later this year will be the first since the 17th was released in 2017.
Harper has been principal reviser of the Chicago Manual of Style since the 16th edition, which was published in 2010.
He also contributed to the 8th and 9th editions of Kate L. Turabian’s A Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations. He has been working to improve documents for more than thirty-five years. Harper was last on That Word Chat in 2021 with Daniel Heuman, talking about The Chicago Manual of Style add-on to the PerfectIt editing software.
We're departing from our regular time and day — we'll be live in person at the Sheraton San Diego and on Zoom at 4 p.m. EDT (1 p.m. Pacific and 20:00 UTC) on Friday, April 5.
The conference is sold out, and space on Zoom may be limited, so please sign up below to reserve a spot.

That Word Chat is a blast every time we do it. It's also a big time commitment for host Mark Allen and producers Heather Saunders and Sarahni Pecson. We work hard to bring you a casual, fun, usually professional experience. What keeps us going most is hearing how much you love the experience. Please consider being part of the team with various levels of support, each with some cool benefits — most levels include access to our private Slack group. You can opt to support us monthly or annually.
Possibly Important Notes
Your credit card will be charged monthly or annually, but you are welcome to change things at any time.
Terms are subject to change, as is life in general.
Private access to recorded chats means you can download them and use them yourself, share with your pets and immediate family, and use them in whole or in part (give us credit, please) in a classroom or for other nonprofit educational purposes. Mark Allen Editorial LLC retains the copyright. Same goes for the show transcripts.
Benefits listed above are for the live show on Zoom, and we may mix things up or do something totally different on other platforms.
We apologize in advance for any delays in providing any of the benefits listed. We'll do our best, but we sometimes get busy with our day jobs. If you are having trouble finding a benefit or did not receive a benefit, please let us know.
